Subaru debuted the Ascent for the 2019 model year.
On the highest-volume products (Forester, Outback, Crosstrek), Subaru typically introduces all-new models on a five-year product cycle, with a “Big Minor Change,” or “refresh” in the middle with a simple exterior and interior adjustments.
Other Subaru models (including the Ascent) are typically all-new with a six or seven-year schedule, also with a refresh in between.

2023 Subaru Ascent Review
If you’re looking for something on the adventure side of a family SUV, the Subaru Ascent 2023 is a 3-row SUV with a real off-road cut.
This is a delightful family SUV with a spacious and comfortable cabin, plus it has many safety features and a history of top safety scores that include the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.
All-wheel drive comes standard on every trim, providing confident traction in inclement road conditions and better off-road capability than most rivals.
For the 2023 model year, we expect to see the Wilderness trim added to the Ascent lineup. The Wilderness trim from the Outback and Forester takes this SUV to the next level of off-road proficiency with rugged styling to match.
The Ascent is the next most likely candidate for the Wilderness treatment, but we haven’t heard confirmation from Subaru yet. We don’t see any major changes to the 2023 Ascent other than the potential Wilderness model.
